The team is divided into subgroups that focus on a particular portion of the team’s work. Students typically join one particular subgroup, but it is common for students to switch subgroups, especially from year to year. Each subgroup has a student vice president. The team has two student CEOs.
The EM subgroup is responsible for:
- Designing the robot in with computer aided design (CAD) software
- Manufacturing the parts of the robot
- Assembling the robot
- Wiring the robot
- Repairing the robot
The Software subgroup is responsible for:
- Vision system — April tag and game piece detection
- Localization — the robot knows where it is on the field
- Mechanism orchestration — making the robot’s pieces work together to accomplish tasks
- Autonomous routines — what the robot does in the portion of the match with no driver
- Tuning — Getting the robot to shoot the right distance or stop in the right place
The business subgroup is responsible for:
- Fundraising
- Marketing
- The website
- Community outreach
- Finances
The strategy subgroup is responsible for:
- Determining what the robots capablities should be and how it will play the game
- Verifying the robot is built to specifications
- Training the drive team
- Event selection
- Match planning
- Scouting
